Where Is Larry Blackmon Now? He Still Manages Cameo and Runs “Ask LB”, A Cameo Nation’s Show

Lots of artists helped popularize Funk music, but Blackmon did more than most: he helped revolutionize this genre.

His unique vocal styling that’s characterized by his raspy deep voice and exceptional delivery changed the game.

Larry together with his band, The Cameo, still delivers energetic and soulful performances that have inspired artists for over 5 decades.

But the latest lawsuit over the ownership of the trademark Cameo has forced us to find out where Larry Blackmon is and what is he doing right now; after all, he is still active in his 60s.

Where is Larry Blackmon Now?

Larry has managed to keep his personal life private and we don’t even know where he resides right now.

But we know that he started his career in Harlem, New York City where he formed the band.

He later relocated with his band to Atlanta where he formed his label and continued releasing albums. He is known for his hit song “Word Up” which topped the Billboard R&B chart.

Larry was blessed with 2 kids (Kyera Dominique and Larry Scott Blackmon), but he is single at the moment.  He has dated a number of women over the years but always kept this personal life private.

Larry Still Manages Cameo

Larry owns the Cameo trademark and has had to deal with a lawsuit from the other members of the group.

Some of the group members sued him 5 years ago for preventing them from benefiting from SoundExchange’s digital royalties while claiming that they were co-owners of the trademark “CAMEO.” They also sought earnings from all the other businesses associated with Cameo.

Blackmon countersued them for infringement and counterfeiting. The court ruled in his favor confirming that he is the owner of the trademark which he still manages to date.

Therefore, no other member of the group can use the name Cameo without his permission.

Larry manages the sales of cameo merchandise and their shows through the group’s official website.

He Runs Cameo Nation’s Show, “Ask LB”

Larry also runs the group’s official YouTube page where he has uploaded several videos and podcasts with the popular one being “Ask LB.”

The podcast features Larry answering all his fans’ questions while sharing some of their memorable experiences while on the road.

He has also been featured in a number of podcasts including the Questlove podcast where he shared his 5-decade-long journey as an artist and the challenges he and the team has faced.

Is Larry Still Performing?

Unlike most of the members of Cameo, he is still active to date and still recording music and performing.

The group released their first track in 19 years in 2019 titled “El Passo.” Larry and the Cameo were fully booked last year and they did their last show in December.

They also served as the residency show for Westgate Las Vegas Casino between March 2016 and March 2017.

They have already been booked for two tours in 2024. The first one will be on March 15 at Morongo Casino Resort and SPA followed by another in Long Beach, CA which will take place in May.

According to their website, their schedule for 2024 is still open so you can contact E’lyse group 7 Agency via their email or phone call and book them for a future gig. You can also purchase their merchandise online.
