St John Hospitalis a level 4 private hospital founded over 34 years ago. It is located in Githurai 45, 100 meters off Thika road.
When it started in 1989, this facility only had 5 employees, but over the years, it has grown to about 40 employees, alongside volunteers.
It started out as an out-patient healthcare facility, but within no time, they added an operating theatre, maternity and in-patient wards.
By 2005, they had expanded and added other healthcare services that I’ll list later in this post.
They have a team of highly experienced healthcare professionals who are committed to provide personalized care according to each patient’s needs.
Compared to other level 4 private hospitals, St John’s offers high quality, very affordable healthcare services in the region.
At the moment, the hospital has a bed capacity of 50 patients, and it operates 24 hours.
This facility has become increasingly known due to its outstanding services and professional nursing care. Each ward is headed by a charge sister.

The admission process at St John’s is quite simple. A self-paying patient is required to make a deposit within 24 hours of admission.
For patients with insurance covers, they are required to ensure that the doctor fills in the insurance form within the first 24 hours.
The discharge process is easy as well, especially since the treating doctor initiates the process by signing off the discharge form. The patient is then required to follow up with the front office to confirm all the payments have been settled, and receive a blue discharge slip. The patient then takes this to the charge sister so as to be released from the hospital.
Maternity Charges
At St John’s hospital Githurai, the maternity ward is located in the obstetric unit. This unit caters those who are 28+ weeks pregnant, in labor, and those from delivery.
How are St John’s hospital maternity services?At the facility, this section is designated to cater for those scheduled for a caesarian section, and those who just delivered. Here, they are given post-natal care, and educated on how to breastfeed, especially new mothers.
Experienced obstetricians, nurses and midwives are equipped to make the entire delivery process is safe and unforgettable. The nurses and support staff work together to offer assistance to ensure the patients are comfortable. The ward has adjustable delivery beds that allow the mother to assume the right position comfortably and with ease.
The maternity ward is equipped with modern fetal monitors that help monitor the baby’s heartbeat, keeping the doctors and staff informed on the status of the newborn.
All new staff in this unit is thoroughly trained by a senior midwife on the needs of a mother in labor, and on how to handle a newborn. So, you do not have to worry about being handled by a young staff when you visit the facility for delivery.
Training offered to new mothers help in the mother to child bonding experience. They are encouraged to stay with the baby in the room.
Also, they are educated on the benefits of breastfeeding immediately, which include facilitating quick recovery from pregnancy effects. Early breastfeeding also reduces irritability, vulnerability, and idleness.
