Office of the Auditor General Kenya Salary Scales

The Office of the Auditor General (OAG) is one of the independent institutions established by the 2010 Constitution.

The officer in charge of the OAG is the Auditor General based at the head office in Nairobi.

Other regional offices are located in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Eldoret, Kakamega, Machakos, Kisii, Nyeri, Garissa and Bungoma.

That’s where lower cadre officers are posted to work under a supervisor who reports to the head office in Nairobi.

The work of the OAG is to audit the financial records of National and County Governments, Commissions, Independent Offices, Judiciary, statutory bodies, state corporations, and any other public entities that are funded from public funds and give reports on the state of financial performance in those entities.

Since its establishment, the OAG has been advertising job vacancies that have drawn the interest of many Kenyan job seekers due to its reputation as one of the best workplaces in Kenya.

Like any other public institution, the OAG job positions are categorized into various job grades, each with a different salary scale.The job grades range from OAG 1 to OAG 12.

 Below are some of the job positions at the OAG and their respective salaries.

1. Auditor General

 The remuneration of the OAG is currently set at between KES. 792,000 to KES.1,056,000 per month, excluding allowances, as per the Salaries and Remuneration Commission guidelines. This makes the Auditor General one of the highest-paid public officials in Kenya.

The office of the Auditor General falls vacant every eight years, upon which the position is advertised for interested candidates to apply.

The job requires a Master’s degree, fifteen years of audit experience and membership of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK)

2. Deputy Auditor General

The salary falls betweenKES.500,000 to KES. 850,000 per month.

The position requires membership of ICPAK and at least fifteen years of practical experience in auditing and a Master’s degree in a relevant field.

4. Director, Internal Audits

The Directror of internal audits is a senior management role at the OAG, which offers a monthly salary of between KES.130, 000 to KES.350, 000 depending on qualifications and experience.

5. ICT Manager/ Finance Manager/ Human Resources Manager/Transport and Logistics Manager

The salaries for these OAG positions are slightly below those of the directors.

The average is KES.90, 000 to KES.180, 000 per month, exclusive of allowances.

6. Motor Vehicle Driver

There are a lot of logistical tasks at the OAG such as ferrying staff to audit sites or carrying document files.

That means they need to hire drivers from time to time. The average monthly driver’s salary at the OAG is KES. 19,000 excluding allowances.

7. Finance Officer

The basic monthly salary ranges between KES. 90,000 to KES.130, 000, exclusive of allowances, depending on experience.

8. Graphic Designer

The use of modern technology to create graphic illustrations and edit photos has created the need for graphic designers at the OAG.

The average monthly salary is KES.50,000 at the entry-level.

9. Audit Associates

These are the most recurrently advertised positions at the OAG.

They play a key role in carrying out audit assignments in taxpayer-funded entities, which are the core business of the OAG.

There are three job grades for audit associates at the OAG, namely Audit Associate I (Grade OAG 6), Audit Associate II (Grade OAG 7), and Audit Associate III (OAG 8), which is the entry-level category.

The average monthly salary for audit associates at the OAG is KES120, 000 at the entry-level inclusive of allowances.
