Early Life

DJ Rabar was born into a huge family of ten. His father, Mr. Wilson G.C.U. Rabar, was married twice, to Janet Nyagem and Dainah Nyasembo.

His siblings are George Rabar, Mary Rabar, Betty Rabar-Onyango, Caroline Akinyi Okong’o, Evelyne Owen, the late Maggie Rabar, Judie Lynn Rabar-Aquino, Mike Rabar, and Alph Rabar.

John is the youngest of them all.

Personal Life & Family

Despite being a celebrity, Rabar is a very private and conserved person when it comes to his personal life.

He is married to Amina Abdi Rabar, a Kenyan media personality and award-winning radio and TV host, voice-over artist, actor, and MC.

He first met her after she joined the Homeboyz Radio School back in 2006. Their relationship was just boss-employee for years, though he noticed her for her good work.

After years of working together, Rabar asked Amina out to dinner, opening up a communication channel that allowed them to get acquainted with one another.

However, it wasn’t until 2012 that the two started dating.

They wedded at a secret ceremony with just their families and close friends.

For years they were able to keep their relationship a secret, until 2014 when Amina came clean about their marriage in an interview.

Though he married a Muslim wife, there has been no confirmation that he converted to the Muslim religion.

In June 2014, the two welcomed a bouncing baby boy, Tumi.

Rabar and his family reside in one of the lavish suburbs in Nairobi.

Career & Business

John first started deejaying as an assistant to his older brother, Myke Rabar. He was at Egerton University at the time.

Together with his brothers, Myke and Alph, they formed the Homeboyz Music band, and their music was played on Capital FM.

At the time, deejaying was unknown to the Kenyan entertainment industry and hence wasn’t viewed as a profession that could earn one a stable income.

After some time, other Kenyans followed, creating real competition for the brothers in the industry.

However, despite several ups and downs, the brothers’ zeal and determination saw them make a breakthrough by the early 2000s.

They were able to start their own radio station, Homeboyz, and a DJ academy. This attracted both local and international attention.

They also started the Homeboyz Radio School which opened the career doors to many young and talented Kenyans.

Though family-owned businesses tend to carry a lot of conflicts, the Rabar family has managed to thrive in the business due to collaboration and mutual respect between the three.

Aside from Deejaying and his position at Homeboyz, DJ John is also a businessman.

He owns a couple of real estate businesses and investments around Nairobi.
