It is the best Children’s hospital in Kenya and the most established pediatric facility in Eastern and Central Africa.
It is a Level 5 healthcare facility, and a tertiary Referral and Teaching Children’s Hospital.
It extends its services to children, teens, and young adults who fit in the age bracket of 0-21 years.

Without discrimination, the hospital provides care to children with a less privileged background through the Gertrude’s Hospital Foundation.

Gertrude’s Hospital Maternity Charges
Gertrude’s is a pediatric hospital, so they do not offer maternity services. But they do have antenatal care and well-baby clinics.
During the antenatal visits, the doctors discuss with the mom-to-be any concerns she might have regarding the birthing plan, parenting style, tests and procedures leading to delivery, baby’s immunization, and learn of the facility’s schedule for newborn checkups.
Doing this gives the patient ample time to decide whether the services offered at Gertrude’s Hospital are a good fit for her baby or not.
Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital does not charge for antenatal care visits.
Gertrude’s Hospital encourages parents to choose their baby’s pediatrician during pregnancy.
Visiting the facility for prenatal consultation early in the third trimester is recommended in order to meet the pediatrics team.
Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital follows the checkup schedule advised by the American Academy of Pediatricians, which ensures that the vaccinations are given at the appropriate time.
Well-baby visits are important as they give the pediatrician a chance to detect or prevent health-related problems early before symptoms appear.
During a well-baby clinic visit, Gertrude’s Hospital pediatrician:
- Performs a physical exam for the baby
- Assesses the growth and development
- Performs developmental screenings if need be
- Performs medical tests to assess hearing, vision, hemoglobin, etc., according to the baby’s age
- Gives vaccinations according to age and individual preferences
