Meet the current Muuga FM Presenters

Muuga FM is a brand of Royal Media Services that broadcasts in the Kimeru language.

Its programs include talk shows, news, and a variety of entertainment from comedy to music and theatre.

Named after a common greeting among the Ameru people “muuga”, which when translated means “how are you”, this radio station broadcasts in Meru and Ukambani regions, Thika, Murang’a, Timau and Nairobi.

The station educates the young generation on the identity and culture of the Ameru people.

Here is a quick list of the talented personalities make this radio station what it is—home of entertainment, information, and an interactive forum for the Meru communities.

Mutuma M’Nairobi

Joses Mutuma is known for his humor and love for radio.

He joined Royal Media Services in October 2014 right after completing his Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication.

He is currently on the sports desk, and hosts the gospel show ‘Kithima kia Muoyo’(loosely translated ‘well of life’) that airs on Sunday.

He also hosts the Monday to Friday ‘Nthurima Ngugi’ show from 10am to 1pm.

Mwenda wa Gichuru

Richard Mwenda Gichuru is the deputy Head of Radio at Muuga FM.

He is one of the founding presenters of Muuga FM.

 During his time with the station, Mwenda has worked as a news anchor, producer, and currently as a continuing presenter.

He hosts the show ‘Twitie Nkathi’ every evening from Monday to Friday.

As a farmer, he also produces the ‘Kaju ka Murimi’ (loose translation ‘the voice of the farmer’) that’s aired Monday to Friday at 7:30am.

Alex Kinyua

Affectionately known as Tesa Tesa, Alex joined the media industry as a Kenya Broadcasting Cooperation TV reporter way back in 2014.

He later made a switch to radio by joining Royal Media Services, where he started off as a news and sports reporter.

Now, as a continuing presenter, he hosts the ‘Mwenjoyo’(loosely translated ‘enjoyment’) show that airs Monday through Friday at 1pm to 4 pm.

Peter Kithela

Kithela is a Royal Media Services journalist who hosts the Muuga Reggae show that runs Monday through Friday at 4pm to 6pm on Muuga FM.

Mukiri wa Kusimba

Grace Mukiri Kusimba, a talented gospel musician and actress, first graced the Muuga FM listeners when it was launched in 2005.

She hosts the kids show every Saturday from 9 am to 11 am, as well as ‘Uthongi’ that runs Monday through Sunday.

Mukiri is currently the head of Muuga FM.

Gacheru wa Mwirigi

Emily Gacheru Mwirigi is a Muuga FM presenter known for her humor, and interest in the upbringing the boy child.

She hosts the Sunday gospel show ‘Turathimane’(Let’s bless each other).

Domenic Munene

He is popularly known as Munene wa Kanunkunu. He is a script writer, philanthropist, MC, and news presenter.

He is known for his breakfast news segment that runs daily from 6 am to 10 am.

Kathambi Juster

Kathambi joined Muuga FM in March 2006 from Kenya Broadcasting Cooperation.

Commonly known as ‘Muciari’ (parent), the mother of four has produced programs such as ‘Mwekuru Nkatha’(it deals with women empowerment), ‘Mpaura Murigo’(cry for justice), and business features over the years.

She currently hosts the mid-morning show at Muuga FM.

Kendi Muruga

Also known as Njau ya Mwari, Muruga is a news anchor who hosts the mid-morning and afternoon news segments Monday-Friday between 10 am and 4 pm, as well as Saturday afternoon news from 2 pm to 9 pm.

She is known for her lively personality and bright smile. She is currently the Head of News at Muuga FM.

Nkatha wa Rintaugu

Stella hosts the early morning gospel show segment, ‘Kembura Nkoro’ that airs Monday to Friday from 4 am to 6 am.

She also brings the washa washa kigooco live every Sunday from 10 am to 1 pm alongside a music band.

She is the founder of Sleek Media Productions focused on sharing people’s life stories through videos and photography, which is credited to her love of photography.

Atanasio Kithinji

Known to his colleagues as Mzito, Kithinji has been a Muuga FM news presenter since 2013. Before that he hosted a sports show on the station.
