How Much are AFC Leopards Players Paid?

AFC Leopards is one of the longest-standing and most successful football clubs in Kenya.

AFC stands for Abaluhya Football Sports Club popularly known as Igwe-a Luhya word meaning leopard- by its many fans.

It is one of the most successful football clubs in Kenya after Gor Mahia.

It commands massive following across the country and has won the Kenya Premier League title a record 13 times, has 10 Kenya Cup titles, and has won CECAFA Club Championship 5 times.

The Mashemeji Derby which pits Gor Mahia against AFC Leopards, is the most popular football derby in Kenya.

Founded in 1964, AFC thrashed opponents in East and Central Africa and won titles in a row from 1982 -1984.

AFCs current head coach is 58-year-old Belgian Patrick Aussems who was appointed on February 9, 2021.

AFC Leopards Players Salary

AFC Leopards players in 2019 would pocket Ksh. 6,000 for winning away from home and Ksh. 5,000 for winning home matches.

The then chairman, Alex Ole Magelo, would then top up the amount to Ksh. 9,000.

The players’ basic salary ranged between Ksh.25, 000-Ksh. 60,000 monthly.

This has greatly improved since the currently estimated pay for players ranges from Ksh. 70,000-Ksh.85,000 per month.

This is exclusive of training allowances and other bonuses that the players enjoy.

AFC Leopards Corporate Sponsorships

Sponsorship deals with various firms such as Spotika help the club in paying salaries.

This ensures that AFC Leopards currently earns Ksh.60 million per season from Spotika which facilitates prompt payment of players’ salaries and allowances. This is the case for the deal the club signed with Spotika for the 2022/2023 season.

The current players for the 2022/2023 season include midfielder Marvin Omondi, goalkeeper Levin Opiyo, Right-back Lewis Band, central midfield Victor Omune, attacking midfield Asad Musa, left winger Jaffari Odenyi and centre-forward Ojo Olaniyi amongothers.

Paul Were of AFC Leopards in Kenya earns a salary of Kshs. 70,000 per month exclusive of other allowances.

AFC Leopards Players among the Best Paid in Kenya

Some AFC Leopards players appear in the list of the highest-paid Kenya Premier League players.

These include a Rwandan national, Eric Ndashimiye, who formerly played for AFC Leopards as the goalkeeper.

He took home Ksh.120, 000 per month before he left the club and went back to his home country.

Another former player, Kenyan national Whyvonne Isuza, earned over Ksh.135, 000 per month while playing for AFC Leopards. He played the position of attacking midfielder.

Yet another former player, Waki Yeka, a DR Congo national raked in Ksh.200, 000 while playing for the club. He played the position of a striker.

 Playing for AFC football club is a lucrative move since one gets to enjoy additional benefits in addition to the salaries that vary depending from one player to another.

AFC player salaries have greatly improved over the years and sponsorship deals ensure that player salaries and benefits are paid in good time.
