Meet Mike Nyagwoka AKA Sauti ya Nyoka (Radio Maisha)

Mike, popularly known as ‘Sauti ya Nyoka’ due to his impeccable voice and excellent Swahili ascent, is among the few radio personalities in Kenya that have established a solid reputation in the country’s highly competitive media industry.

Educational Background

Mike went to AIC Primary School in Kisii County and later joined Nakuru high school for his secondary education, where he sat for his KCSE exams in 2005.

He joined Moi University in 2007 to pursue a bachelor’s degree in mass communication and graduated in 2011.

The radio presenter later furthered his studies to attain a master’s in development communication from Daystar University.

Personal Background

Despite his fluent and smooth Swahili ascent, Mike Nyagwoka belongs to the Abagusii (Kisii) tribe of Kenya.

He was born in 1988 in Kisii county as the firstborn and the only boy with three sisters.

Marital Status

Mike is a private person who rarely reveals his personal life.

However, from his Instagram posts, it appears that he is married (although his wife’s details are unknown) and has a young son.

Career Background

After completing his studies at Moi University, Mike secured a job at Kisima FM in 2013, where he worked for three years before joining Radio Maisha in 2016 at a junior level.

He was later promoted to a Kiswahili news presenter due to his hard work and excellent Swahili proficiency.

In December 2019, he was nominated and won an award as the radio personality of the year at the Gusii Creative Awards.

Mike is also a voice-over artist and occasionally appears as a guest host in some of Radio Maisha’s programs like ‘Gumzo la Mwanaspoti’ and ‘Hoja za Wahariri.’

It’s essential to note that the presenter is also professional writer mainly focusing on the country’s political environment.
