How to Join St. John Ambulance

St John Ambulance, a non-profit organization, is one of Kenya’s first-aid and health crisis emergency responders.

The organization has been at the forefront of responding to disaster and accident victims and offering first-aid and critical care.

You have probably seen their teams in different disaster scenarios and accident scenes, such as fire breakouts, terrorism-related attacks, road accidents, plane crashes, and collapsed buildings.

St John Ambulance fulfills its mandate through its equipped top-notch ambulances, first-aid kits, and trained health practitioners and volunteers.

Given all you have heard about St. John Ambulance, it probably made you curious about what it takes to join the noble organization.

There are several ways to be part of St. John Ambulance, and some of them include volunteering, attending charity events, donating, training, etc.

This post will discuss in detail how interested individuals can join St. Johns Ambulance for a chance to impact their community through its range of services.

St. John Ambulance Training Courses

More than 14,000 participants enroll yearly in St John School of first aid, an opportunity for you to learn about emergency medical response from professionals.

The training attracts many candidates because it aligns with global standards, enabling trainees to practice their gained skills anywhere in the world if a disaster or an accident happens in their surroundings.

The training covers several courses that include:

  • Fire and disaster preparedness
  • First aid training
  • Para-medicine
  • Life-support
  • Occupational safety and health
  • First aid advice

St. John Ambulance First Aid Course Prices

The first aid course is the most sought-after training at St John Ambulance, attracting tens of thousands of trainees annually.

The first aid course comes in different types and charges too.

Below is a list of first aid courses offered at St John countrywide centers like Nairobi, Kisumu, Mombasa, Nakuru, Embu, Eldoret, and Nyeri:

  • Refresher First Aid: This course empowers people with the know-how to deal with or manage emergencies whenever they arise. The course costs 3,000 and runs for one week.
  • Occupational First Aid: This course aims to equip you with first aid skills to help you respond to workplace emergencies while waiting for the medical team to arrive. The course runs for less than 30 days and costs 6,500 per person.
  • Pediatric First Aid: Another training offered to nannies or daycare managers on handling emergencies for the little ones, offered at 2,000.
  • Aviation First Aid: As its name suggests, this training targets emergencies in aviation and costs around 6,600.

It is crucial to note that trainees are issued an internationally-recognized certificate and a free first aid book upon completion of the training.

St. John Ambulance Volunteering

Another option for joining St John Ambulance is by volunteering.

However, you must fill out St John Ambulance volunteer application form before being accepted.

Not only are you trained on how to respond to disasters, but also on how to comfort and reassure traumatized disaster victims.

After being accepted as a volunteer, you are offered training on first aid.

You then become part of the emergency team.

There is no pay for St John Ambulance volunteers, but involvement is rewarding.

Besides volunteering, you can also be part of the St John Ambulance fraternity by donating to help them stay on the road.

Alternatively, you can participate in their charity drives to fundraise for different causes, like purchasing state-of-the-art ambulances.

St John Ambulance Internship

Graduates who have completed medical-related and business courses can apply for the St John Ambulance internship.

The first step involves checking the organization’s career page to confirm if they have internship slots.

Proceed to apply for the internship by filling out the application form and waiting to be shortlisted.

You will then receive the interview date; if successful, you will be told when to report.

There is no information regarding the St John Ambulance intern’s salary.
