How did Cornejo get to be so famous at his age?

How Ivan Cornejo’s Journey to Fame Started

Cornejo’s story is short. He taught himself to play the guitar in 2011 at the age of 7.

Like many successful musicians, Cornejo’s inspiration to write music came from a place of pain after experiencing a heartbreak while in middle school.

He started out watching YouTube guitar tutorials, a skill he had mastered by age 14.

However, his friends encouraged him to perfect his craft, advice he took to heart.

By the age of 15, Cornejo was posting guitar instrumentals of his favorite artists’ songs on TikTok.

He attracted a massive audience on his social media platforms as a result of the authenticity of his music.

However, he gained his fame in 2021 through his YouTube videos.

At the age of 16, Cornejo signed his first record deal with Andres Garcio of Houston’s Manzana Records.

His songs such as ‘Está Dañada’ and ‘Perro Abandonado’ have registered over 20M views on YouTube in a period of one year, while ‘Donde Estás’ acquired 3M views within a span of two weeks.

‘Está Dañada’ saw Cornejo hit the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

He released his debut album, ‘Alma Vacia,’ in August 2021. It attracted a total of 9.4M streams.

The album’s singles ‘Noche De Relajo’ and ‘Corazón Frío’ were in the top 20 on the Regional Mexican Albums chart.

In 2022, he released ‘Dañado,’ a romantic ballad-centric that hit the top 10 of the genre chart within the first week of its release.

In his song, ‘Ya Te Perdi,’ Cornejo speaks of his experience with a rough breakup and the emotional toll it had on him.

The intensity of the sadness and loneliness he went through are depicted by the track’s lyrics and powerful vocal delivery. It’s no wonder his music draws so much attention from his online audience.

Cornejo signed Interscope Records in August 2023 following his success in the Regional Mexican music genre after a heated bidding war. This came after his concert tickets were completely sold out days before his US tour.

As of November 2023, Cornejo had 1.7M followers on Instagram and 458,000 subscribers on YouTube.

Despite having acquired fame so early in his career, Cornejo is determined to continue building himself and maintaining his strong foundation in the music industry, thanks to his partnership with Interscope.
