Being a celebrity is difficult because every aspect of their life, including their physical appearance, is open to scrutiny.
Talking of celebrity bodies, it is unfair that people expect them to be flawless, yet they are human.
It doesn’t matter if they undergo cosmetic surgery or stay natural; they always find themselves being a topic of interest if their bodies don’t fit industry standards.
Several celebrities haven’t shied away from discussing their physical flaws.
They have embodied, accepted, and flaunted them without minding if the public will notice.
A few examples of celebrities who have openly shared about having body deformities include Denzel Washington, who has a dislocated pinky finger; Harry Styles with four nipples; Tom Hardy’s curved finger; and more.
In this post, I will focus on celebrities with brachymetatarsia, like Jennifer Garner and Victoria Beckham, but before then, let’s learn a few basics about the condition.
This is a body deformity characterized by shortened metatarsal bones that result in shorter-than-usual toes.
In some cases, the affected toe or toes overlap the nearby ones.
Brachymetatarsia condition is genetic and not easily detectable at birth but grows with time to be noticeable.
The condition can sometimes cause pain, particularly when individuals wear shoes that don’t provide enough room for the affected toe.
Is the condition reparable?
Doctors can perform bone grafting surgery to restore the toe to its normal state.
If the affected person is embarrassed by the overlapping toe and cannot wear open shoes, they can undergo surgery to remedy the condition.
It is the same case for those who endure pain wearing closed shoes or if the toe grows into worrying length.
Now, how about we take a look at celebrities with brachymetatarsia?
The famous actress and ex-wife to Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, has brachymetatarsia, which often makes the media focus on her toes whenever she is in open shoes.
Jennifer has been photographed severally running errands publicly in sandals without caring who may spot her overlapping toe.
However, sometimes she is forced to wear closed shoes, especially when attending red carpet events, to avoid attracting too much attention to her toes since we all know how paparazzi can be behind those lenses.
Jennifer’s toe may not be giving her too much trouble because she hasn’t had surgery to remedy her toe yet.
The American actress featured in movies like Small Town of Wisconsin and Thrill Ride also had difficulty having brachymetatarsia on both feet.
She couldn’t bear the pain any longer and had to undergo surgery to ease the discomfort.
Kristen, who also has Lupus, had her metatarsal bones lengthened, enabling her to have normal-looking toes.
Her revelation also helped spread awareness among people battling the condition in hiding, giving them hope that they are not the only ones fighting it and can be remedied.
3. Emma Bunton
Emma Lee Bunton is an actress and singer, formerly a member of the girl group Spice Girls.
She opened up about her brachymetatarsia condition on her left foot and how it affected her.
Emma underwent surgery to rectify the condition and share her predicament to raise awareness.
Another former Spicy Girl member, Victoria, also openly shared how she had to put up with brachymetatarsia before deciding to undergo surgery.
Like Kristen, Victoria’s toes were also lengthened in a corrective surgery.
The decision by the above personalities to share their experiences with brachymetatarsia is commendable because by doing so, ordinary people battling the condition have hope that the condition can affect anyone and that it is manageable through surgery.
