2025 Rankings: Top 6 Best Universities in East Africa

According to the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, six universities from East Africa have emerged as regional leaders, reflecting the continent’s growing investment in academic excellence and research.

Leading the region is Makerere University in Uganda, which continues to earn recognition as one of the most prestigious and oldest institutions in Africa. It remains a symbol of academic excellence in East Africa and has once again secured a top 50 spot among African universities.

Kenyatta University of Kenya follows closely, representing Kenya’s dedication to accessible, high-quality public education, while Tanzania’s Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences and University of Dar es Salaam make strong showings in health sciences and general academic programs respectively.
